Terry McLaurin Inks Lucrative Contract Extension With The Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders' star wide receiver signed a three-year $96 million deal, ending his ‘hold-in.’

Just ahead of the start of the NFL season, Terry McLaurin signed a contract extension with the Washington Commanders.

According to CBS Sports, the wide receiver’s new deal is a three-year, $96-million extension, making “Scarry Terry” one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the league.

McLaurin will also receive a $30 million signing bonus in the deal.

The extension brings an end to a tense offseason between McLaurin and the Commanders' front office, when a deal that satisfied both sides couldn’t be reached. McLaurin even requested a trade, missed several practices, and the beginning of training camp. He was fined approximately $305,000 for skipping the minicamp and forfeited a $500,000 workout bonus before agreeing to a new contract.

When the news broke of McLaurin’s extension, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, co-owner of the Commanders, took to social media to express his excitement.

“I’m thrilled that we re-signed Terry McLaurin! Job well done by my partner, Josh Harris, and GM Adam Peters. This is great news for Commander players, our organization, and all Commander fans,” Johnson wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Terry is more than just a great football player, he is an outstanding leader and does tremendous things in the DMV community,” his post continued.

Last season, McLaurin was one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. He caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and a franchise-record 13 touchdowns.  Ja'Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals is the only receiver to catch more touchdowns (17) than McLaurin in 2024. 44.8% of Washington's receiving touchdowns came from McLaurin, “which was the third-highest percentage of any player for a team, behind Brian Thomas Jr. (52.6%) and Malik Nabers (46.7%).”

Because of McLaurin’s play, the Commanders made the NFC Championship for the first time since the 1991 season. However, they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, the eventual Super Bowl champions, in the NFC Championship title game.

McLaurin is coming off his second Pro Bowl appearance and has surpassed 1,000 yards for five consecutive seasons.
