Derek Jeter Doesn't Miss Playing Baseball
After winning five World Series titles and being inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020, Derek Jeter does not miss playing baseball.
Appearing on Colin Cowherd’s FS1 show “The Herd,”Jeter revealed that he never thinks about the 162-game MLB grind.
“Look, I was fortunate, I played in a lot of World Series,” Jeter said. “I played in seven World Series, man. I’ve had a lot of at-bats, but I just love it. If there’s one thing I do miss — I don’t miss playing the game. I don’t. There hasn’t been a day since I retired where I’ve missed playing the game, but if I could wake up and play in a World Series, I’d do it.”
Since his retirement, Jeter has become a successful broadcaster, working as an analyst on Fox Sports’ baseball coverage since 2023. Jeter is joined by fellow baseball legends David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez.
Known as "The Captain," Jeter spent his entire 20-year career with the New York Yankees. He’s a 14-time All-Star, won the 1996 AL Rookie of the Year and 2000 World Series MVP awards. Jeter retired with 3,465 hits, the sixth-most in MLB history, and remains the Yankees' all-time leader in hits, games played, and doubles.
For his clutch performances in the postseason, he earned the nickname "Mr. November.”
In contrast to Jeter’s perspective, Michael Jordan shared how much he misses competing in his debut appearance for the NBA on NBC last week.
“I wish I could take a magic pill, put on shorts, and go out and play the game of basketball today, because that’s who I am,” Jordan told Mike Tirico on his “Insight into Excellence" segment. “That type of competition, that type of competitiveness is what I live for, and I miss it. I miss that aspect of playing the game of basketball.”
