Eagles’ Saquon Barkley Surprises Northeast High School Football Player Shot in Spine with Super Bowl 60 Trip
Jayden Boyd’s season didn’t end when a stray bullet fractured his spine in September. Instead, it ended with a surprise visit from an NFL champion.
Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley surprised the Northeast High School quarterback with two tickets to Super Bowl 60, honoring Boyd’s resilience following a life-altering injury. The surprise took place just months after Boyd was accidentally shot in the spine while playing video games with friends.
The stray bullet, which entered through a door, fractured Boyd’s spine and left his future on the gridiron in doubt. Defying the odds, the 17-year-old underwent months of intensive physical therapy and made a miraculous return to the field for Northeast High’s traditional Thanksgiving Day game.
Barkley, the 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, personally delivered the tickets to Boyd’s home. The Eagles standout spent time with the family, signed a jersey for the young signal-caller, and even cracked a few jokes as they processed the news that they would be heading to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
“I see you’ve got a lovely family, so I’ll let you guys fight over this one,” Barkley joked while presenting the tickets.
The timing of the gift is significant as the Eagles prepare for their own postseason run. As the reigning Super Bowl 59 champions, Philadelphia enters the playoffs as the No. 3 seed. They are set to host the San Francisco 49ers this Saturday in a Wild Card matchup at Lincoln Financial Field.
While Boyd’s high school season ended with a 4-8 record, his successful return to play served as a beacon of hope for his North Philly community. Now, he’ll head to the Super Bowl as a guest of honor, representing a comeback story that resonated all the way to the Eagles' front office.
