The Miami Dolphins initiated a major roster overhaul Monday, headlined by the release of eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The move comes as part of a series of transactions designed to create significant flexibility under the NFL salary cap as the franchise transitions into a new era.

In addition to Hill, league sources confirmed to The Athletic that former Pro Bowl linebacker Bradley Chubb has been informed of his impending release. The team also parted ways with offensive lineman James Daniels and wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. These decisions, made under first-year general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, are expected to save the organization approximately $23 million in 2026. That savings could reach $30 million depending on the timing and designation of Chubb’s departure.

Hill’s tenure in Miami ends after four seasons. The 31-year-old, known as "The Cheetah," was the center of a massive 2022 trade with the Kansas City Chiefs that saw the Dolphins surrender five draft picks, including a first-round selection. While Hill was a dominant force in South Florida—posting back-to-back 1,700-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023—his 2025 campaign was cut short in Week 4 due to a dislocated knee and a torn ACL.

Off the field, Hill’s time in Miami was marked by several headlines, including a 2024 incident where he was detained by Miami-Dade police outside Hard Rock Stadium and various legal matters. Following the announcement of his release, Hill took to Instagram to express gratitude to the city and his teammates, stating that his "journey doesn’t stop here."

Miami acquired Chubb from the Denver Broncos in 2022 for a first-round pick and signed him to a $110 million extension. Though he recorded 11 sacks in 2023 and a team-high 8.5 sacks in 2025 after returning from a multi-ligament knee injury, his $31 million cap hit for the 2026 season became a primary factor in the team's decision.

Chubb, who turns 30 in June, was a highly respected figure in the locker room, earning the local media’s "Good Guy" award for his professionalism. However, with Sullivan at the helm, the Dolphins appear focused on a long-term financial reset as they navigate the upcoming league year.
