Caleb Williams Leads Bears to Largest Postseason Comeback in Franchise History Against Packers

Behind a record-breaking 361 passing yards from Caleb Williams, the Chicago Bears rallied from an 18-point halftime deficit to stun Green Bay at Soldier Field.

For decades, the Chicago Bears have been on the wrong side of postseason heartbreak, but on Saturday night at Soldier Field, rookie quarterback Caleb Williams rewrote the narrative.

In a performance that solidified his status as the franchise’s future, Williams orchestrated the largest postseason comeback in Bears history, rallying the team from an 18-point halftime deficit to defeat the Green Bay Packers 31-27. The stakes could not have been higher for the NFC North champions. After a regular season defined by six comeback wins, the "Cardiac Bears" found themselves in familiar territory—down 21-3 at the half and 21-6 entering the final frame.

The Soldier Field faithful grew restless as the Packers' Jordan Love dominated the early portions of the game, but head coach Ben Johnson remained calm, reportedly citing the Patriots’ famous Super Bowl LI comeback to motivate his squad in the locker room. The fourth quarter belonged to Williams.Ā

The No. 1 overall pick displayed veteran poise, completing 24 of 48 passes for a franchise-playoff-record 361 yards. The comeback was punctuated by a 25-yard touchdown strike to star receiver DJ Moore with just 1:43 remaining on the clock. The play, which featured a clever fake screen to rookie Luther Burden III, left Moore wide open down the sideline.

"It was a perfect call," Williams said following the win. "We worked on that play call for the past three or four weeks and just didn't use it. In the right moment, coach calls it. The guys did a great job selling it, and DJ made a great catch." The victory was not secured until the game's final seconds. After the Packers drove to the Chicago 23-yard line, a false start pushed them back.

Ā On the final play, Love fumbled the snap before heaving a desperation pass into the end zone that was batted down by defensive back Kyler Gordon. "We’ve got a group of guys, they just don't waver," Johnson said. "The odds were stacked against us, and yet we just keep plugging along. That’s who we are." The win marks Chicago’s first postseason victory since 2010 and sets up a divisional-round matchup at home next weekend.
