Tank Davis Files $20M Countersuit In Domestic Violence Case

He claims a lawsuit accusing him of abuse was an attempt to shake him down.

Undefeated five-time boxing champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis is seeking more than $20 million in damages from a former romantic partner, alleging her domestic violence accusations cost him a massive career payday.

TMZ Sports reported that the 31-year-old fighter filed the countersuit in response to claims that he became physical during an altercation at a strip club. In the filing, the Baltimore native denied allegations of battery and false imprisonment, asserting that he never struck or choked the woman.

The veteran athlete characterized the initial lawsuit as a "shakedown," claiming the woman previously demanded $1.1 million to drop the matter. According to the countersuit, the multi-division champion alleges the woman was the "initial aggressor" and provoked the encounter as part of an elaborate scheme to obtain money.

The legal documents state the woman suffered no injuries and reportedly informed her employer she was unharmed following the incident. The countersuit further claims that the two spent the night together at her residence after the alleged attack took place.

He argues that the accusations intentionally derailed a high-profile bout against Jake Paul, which would have been one of the largest financial gains of his career. The world-class boxer alleges he was set to earn upwards of $20 million for the fight but was replaced after the woman’s lawsuit was filed. Paul eventually faced Anthony Joshua instead, leaving Davis sidelined without the multi-million dollar purse.

Legal representatives for the accuser have already moved to dismiss the counterclaim. The motion argues that an individual cannot be sued for reporting an alleged crime.

While the civil suits proceed, the boxing star still  faces criminal charges in Florida related to the incident. Those charges include a felony count of attempted kidnapping and a misdemeanor count of battery. The fighter has maintained his innocence regarding all criminal and civil allegations brought against him in the matter.
