Allen Iverson and Shaq O’Neal Reveal the Real A.I. in New Docuseries ‘Iv3rson'

Premiering on Prime Video, the three-part docuseries chronicles the meteoric rise of Iverson as a cultural icon.

Allen Iverson is regarded as one of the most electryfying basketball players in the history of the NBA. Over his career, "The Answer" was named an 11-time NBA All-Star, won the NBA scoring title four times and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

For the first time, “The Answer” is telling his own story in his new Prime Video documentary “Iv3rson.” This unflinching look at the NBA legend's life chronicles his remarkable rise from poverty in Newport News, Virginia, to becoming a cultural icon.

During the world premiere of the docuseries in New York CIty, Iverson spoke about the  motivation for him to film the documentary.

“First of all,I was upset because everybody wasn't gonna see the full documentary, you know,” he said. “That was part two. But this documentary was like confirmation for me. It was confirmation to show everybody that the devil was a sucker.”

Shaquille O’Neal, who served as an executive producer on the documentary with Stephen Curry shared why Iverson's story was so important.

“I was telling the media today that it's only a small number of people that come in here, working here and making an impact. He was one of those guys, and we've always had respect for each other,” Shaq said.

“So when I reached out to him and said, ‘Hey, I would like to be a part of the production crew that tells your story, and we want to hear from you’ I knew him as a fine young man. We're all similar. We all come from similar circumstances. We all make similar mistakes.”

One9, who directed the docuseries, shared how he felt to be trusted to tell the story of an icon.

“I realized when you say Allen Iverson, you think heart, you think legend, icon,” One9 said.

“But in my mind as a storyteller, I want to know where that comes from. The more I got to understand this, it comes from his family. With all those things he was going through as a child, all those pitfalls — the bowling alley incident, being vilified as a thug — his family was the one that refused to let him fall.”
