Knicks Lose, Prices Plummet: The Reality Of Finals Tickets Right Now

The San Antonio Spurs extended the series with a crucial road win, causing secondary market prices at Madison Square Garden to drop significantly before Wednesday's matchup.

The San Antonio Spurs extended the NBA Finals with a Game 3 win, causing secondary market ticket prices for Game 4 in New York to drop from their historic highs. Following the New York Knicks' Game 3 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, ticket prices for Game 4 dipped to $4,000, though guard Josh Hart says the cost is still too high for everyday fans.

The New York Knicks missed out on a chance to put a real chokehold on the NBA Finals, and that Game 3 loss to the San Antonio Spurs is actually cooling off the ticket market a bit. Getting into Madison Square Garden for Game 4 will still cost a fortune, but prices have come down from the wild, historic numbers we saw earlier in the week.

The cheapest seat to get through the door for Game 4 fell to around $4,000. Right after the buzzer sounded on Game 3's loss, the entry price was $8,000, and you couldn't even touch the lower bowl for less than $11,000. To put that in perspective, when New York was up 2-0 after taking care of business on the road, the baseline for Game 4 was sitting at a whopping $13,065.

We are talking about some of the most expensive tickets anyone has ever seen. The Knicks even announced that a pair of courtside seats for Game 3 sold at a charity auction for $1 million. Oliver Martin, who handles finance for SeatGeek, told FORBES that the baseline prices for these home games at the Garden were tracking higher than for almost every Super Bowl the platform has ever looked at, except Super Bowl 58.

While the high prices show just how desperate New York fans are to see a title for the first time in 53 years, the reality of the situation is rubbing some players the wrong way. Knicks guard Josh Hart kept it real when asked about the secondary market, noting that the people who have stuck by this team through the bad times are getting completely priced out.

Hart told reporters that it is ridiculous that regular fans who have waited a lifetime for this moment cannot even get into the building because the cheapest ticket is thousands of dollars.

Now, thanks to that Game 3 bounce-back, San Antonio has a real chance to tie things up on Wednesday night before the series heads back out to Texas.
