Tyson Breaks Hand! Mayweather Showdown Pushed To The Fall

Fans will have to wait until later this year to see these two legendary fighters square off.

Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will have to wait until the fall to square off in their highly anticipated exhibition match. The bout was originally scheduled for the spring but has been pushed back while Tyson recovers from a broken hand suffered during training, according to fight promoters.

Tyson drew attention in March when he was spotted wearing a cast on his right arm. During an appearance on "The Ariel Helwani Show" at the time, Tyson downplayed the situation, stating it was just a little sprain from punching stuff during training and noting that he had to train hard. Fans later noticed the cast was gone when videos and photos surfaced of Tyson during a trip to Thailand later that month. However, promoters have now confirmed the injury was a fracture.

The exhibition between the 59-year-old Tyson and the 49-year-old Mayweather was initially scheduled to take place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Promoters Richard Miele and Craig Miele also previously cited May 30 as an initial fight date.

The Miele brothers have not yet announced a specific new date or location for the fall matchup, but their promotional team indicated in a press release that those crucial details will be shared shortly.

The delay adds another wrinkle to a busy autumn schedule for Mayweather. The undefeated boxer is already scheduled to step back into the ring for a professional bout against Manny Pacquiao this September in Las Vegas.

Tyson has not fought in an official professional match since 2005, though he has participated in high-profile exhibitions since his retirement. Mayweather retired from professional boxing in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record and has since remained active through various lucrative exhibition appearances around the world.
