The Five Biggest Storylines of Week 5
Steffon Diggs’ Revenge Game
In his first game back in Buffalo, Stefon Diggs would not let his former team win with a dynamic performance. The New England Patriots stunned the Bills 23-20, handing them their first loss of the season. Diggs had 10 catches for 146 yards, literally willing his team to victory. Following the game, Diggs was asked if he took the game personally.
“One-hundred percent," Diggs, who spent four seasons with the Bills, said after the game. "It was lit, prime time. It was electrifying. I knew it was going to be a test for us."
The Bills take on the Atlanta Falcons Oct. 13.
Kansas City Chiefs Are the Picture of Inconsistency
Trevor Lawrence pulled a Patrick Mahomes, Monday night, with a comeback win leading the Jacksonville Jaguars over the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-28. Lawrence completed 18 of 25 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for two more TDs. Mahomes threw for 318 yards, one touchdown, one interception, 60 rushing yards, and one touchdown. In a post-game interview, Mahomes addressed the Chiefs recent skid.
“It kinda just talks about our entire season. We have the guys and we've executed at certain points in games and looked really good, but we kinda crush ourselves with penalties and mistakes and interceptions and fumbles and whatever that is," Mahomes said. "We've done that to ourselves all season long. It's been one guy here or there. In this league, it's so close that those change games. We've got to be better. We've lost too many games already. We gotta find a way to be better as a team.”
The Chiefs take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 12.
The Eagles Lose Their First Game of the Season
The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first loss of the 2025 season, falling to the Denver Broncos 21-17. The Eagles held a 17-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter before the Broncos orchestrated an epic comeback, scoring 18 unanswered points in the final quarter, capped by a go-ahead touchdown and two-point conversion. After A.J. Brown expressed his frustration with the team’s offense scheme, he put up another less-than-stellar performance with no touchdown catches. Also, running back Saquon Barkley has not played nearly as good as his record-breaking performance last season. Following the game, Brown, Barkley, and Jalen Hurts had a meeting to discuss how they can move forward.
“I’m told Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and Saquon Barkley had a long, positive conversation today,” Philly Voice’s Jimmy Kempski reported on X on Monday. “Lasted a couple hours.”
The Eagles will hit the road for a Week 6 "Thursday Night Football" meeting with the divisional rival New York Giants.
Dak Prescott Looks Better Than Ever As Cowboys Defeat The Jets
In Week 5, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had been playing some of the best football of his career. On Sunday, he led the Cowboys in a dominating win over the New York Jets. Prescott completed 18 of 29 passes for 237 yards, four touchdowns, and a 127.4 passer rating. He engineered multiple long scoring drives, including two of 90+ yards, and managed to do all this while his offensive line was missing four starters. Following the game, Prescott spoke about moving on from the squad’s tie game last week against the Green Bay Packers.
“We know how important it was to get the taste of last week out of our mouths and out of our minds,” Prescott said. “Sure, it was a good game, but it was a tie. You don’t play in this league to get ties. So, you know how hungry the defense is, right?”
The Cowboys are set to take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 12.
Jayden Daniels Returns To Lead Commanders To a Win
Jayden Daniels was back like he never left. In his first game back after spraining his left knee, Daniels led the Washington Commanders to a road victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, 27-10. Daniels finished the game with 231 passing yards and 39 rushing yards, and in the process, became the first quarterback in NFL history to record 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in their first 20 career games. He may have played with an extra jolt of energy playing in his home state of California.
"It means a lot. First game after a couple weeks off and to be in my hometown, I mean you can't write up a better story," Daniels said after the win.
Next up for the Commanders are the Chicago Bears in a “Monday Night Football” matchup on Oct. 13.
