Micah Parsons Frustrated As Extension Talks Stall

The All-Pro linebacker continues to address contract uncertainty during Cowboys training camp.

You can count on the Dallas Cowboys to have some offseason drama, and this year the drama involves a contentious contract dispute with star linebacker Micah Parsons.

Instead of holding out, Parson was present on the first day of training camp in Oxnard, California and spoke to the media about his frustrations with the Cowboys, while his peers have inked new deals.

"Honestly, yeah," Parsons responded. "When you go around the league and you see these other teams taking care of their best guys. I see T.J. got taken care of. Maxx got taken care of. Myles got taken care of.”

"He's got two years left on his deal. You see a lot of people in our league getting taken care of, you wish you had that same type of energy,” he continued.

During a press conference earlier this week, Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones took some shots at Parsons while answering questions about the contract standoff.

“Just because we sign him doesn't mean we're gonna have him. He was hurt six games last year. Seriously," Jones said, although Parsons only missed four games. "I remember signing a player for the highest-paid position in the league, and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year. Dak Prescott. So there's a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you're thinking about committing and guaranteeing money."

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cowboys have not made Parsons an offer, contradicting Jones’s remarks that contract talks have progressed.

"They haven't even submitted a contract proposal," Schefter said Tuesday on “First Take”.

In the final year of his contract, Parsons will make $24 million. The four-time Pro Bowler is seeking $40 million-plus annually from the Cowboys given his talent level.

Since he arrived in the league, Parsons has recorded 52.5 sacks in his first four seasons, trailing only Reggie White (70), Derrick Thomas (58), J.J. Watt (57), and DeMarcus Ware (53.5) since sacks became an official stat in 1982.
