Frances Tiafoe Announces Coaching Change and Early Season Exit After Inconsistent Year

The former US Open semifinalist is turning to Todd Martin to restart his career.

After not meeting his expectations this year, Frances Tiafoe has moved on from his coach David Witt and ended his season as he prepares for 2026.

In a post on Instagram, Tiafoe shared his decision with his followers.

“2025 season has come to an end early this year for the kid. It wasn’t the season I hoped for but lots of lessons learned on and off the court,” Tiafoe’s post read.

“I want to give a huge S/O to my team. I’ve been with these guys for several years. We’ve shared some incredible moments that I’ll remember forever,” the post continued. "That being said I’ve decided it’s time for a change. I truly appreciate the love..energy…passion and brotherhood. It’s been a great ride and only bigger and better things for all of us ahead.”

“Excited for what’s ahead for me and ready to put the work in,” Tiafoe added. Thanks for all the love and support through it all. The best is yet to come.”

Witt shared on Instagram to show his appreciation for Tiafoe.

“Thanks, Big Foe, for the ride this last year and a half. Some things come to an end, but good memories, great times, and a friendship last forever. Thanks, brotha — nothing but love,” Witt said.

Jordi Arconada, who also spent the last five years with Tiafoe, shared his appreciation for their time together.

"After five years of hard work and fun, it is time to let go," Arconada said in his own Instagram post. "I will always be thankful for the opportunity you gave me to come work with you, and I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved together. Super excited for what the future has in store for me and for new beginnings."

After starting the season with several early exits, Tiafoe failed to win consecutive matches until April. His best results were reaching the final of the Houston Open and making a strong run to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. However, the rest of his season saw a significant drop in his ranking from a career-high of World No. 10 down to No. 29.

Tiafoe will be looking for a change of direction at the Australian Open, which begins on Jan. 18.
