Napheesa Collier Sidelined With Ankle Injury

The Minnesota Lynx star forward will miss at least two weeks with a right ankle sprain.

An MRI confirmed that Minnesota Lynx star and MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier suffered a right ankle sprain, the team announced in a statement.

“Collier was evaluated by team physician Dr. Elena Jelsing at Mayo Clinic Square, where a right ankle sprain was confirmed,” the statement read. “Collier will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks, and further updates on her progress will be provided when available.”

During the Lynx's 53-point win over the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday, August 3, the largest road win in league history, Collier was injured late in the third quarter of the game.

With her team leading by 43, Collier rolled her ankle pretty severely when she stepped on Alanna Smith's foot while trailing a missed fastbreak layup.

After the injury, many questioned why Collier was still in the game as the Lynx had an enormous lead. At the post-game press conference, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was asked if she regretted leaving Collier in the game.

"I don't think about those things," Reeve explained. "It's the third quarter of a game on someone else's floor, I don't think the game is over. I don't think like that. She had a sub there, and she wasn't gonna play in the fourth quarter. Sometimes these things happen. I get it, people are gonna rail on me, and that's part of sitting in the seat that I'm sitting in. But we did what we think is right, and sometimes these things happen. It's unfortunate, and hopefully she'll be OK."

This season, Collier is averaging 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. She is also averaging 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. The former Defensive Player of the Year was recently named the Western Conference Player of the Month for July 2025. At the WNBA All-Star Game, she was named MVP after scoring a record 36 points

The Lynx will return to action on Tuesday (August 5), against the Seattle Storm.
