Alabama Basketball Star Aden Holloway Arrested On Felony Drug Charges Ahead Of NCAA Tournament
University of Alabama guard Aden Holloway was arrested Monday on felony drug charges just days before the Crimson Tide is set to begin its run in the NCAA Tournament.
Holloway was taken into custody Monday morning and transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail. According to Tuscaloosa County police spokesperson Stephanie Taylor, agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force searched a residence near the university campus where they recovered more than a pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and cash.
Holloway faces charges of first-degree possession of marijuana—not for personal use—and failure to affix a tax stamp, both of which are Class C felonies under Alabama law. The possession charge alone carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $15,000 fine. Records show his bond was set at $5,000, and he was released from jail on Monday around 10:45 a.m. local time.
The University of Alabama addressed the situation Monday afternoon, stating that officials are working to gather more information. The university confirmed that Holloway has been removed from campus pending an investigation by the UA Office of Student Conduct.
The timing of the arrest presents a significant hurdle for the Crimson Tide. Holloway, a 6-foot-1 junior, is the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 16.8 points per game during the 2025-26 season. He has been a focal point of an Alabama offense that ranks No. 3 in the nation, shooting 44% from beyond the arc. In his most recent outing, Holloway scored 18 points during a loss to Ole Miss in the opening round of the SEC Tournament.
Alabama earned a 4-seed in the Midwest Region after winning nine of its last 11 games. The team is scheduled to face Hofstra in Tampa, Florida, on Friday afternoon. Without Holloway in the lineup, the Crimson Tide must find a way to replace his high-volume scoring and perimeter shooting on the national stage.
