Shedeur Sanders Reportedly Told Baltimore Ravens Not To Draft Him
The Baltimore Ravens were set to draft Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round with the No. 141 pick but he reportedly told the organization to pass on him.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback didn't want to be a backup of Lamar Jackson, where his playing time would be extremely limited.
Instead, the Baltimore Ravens drafted offensive lineman Carson Vinson with the 141st pick.
Three picks later, the Cleveland Browns traded up to select Sanders at No. 144.
Following the Browns' 41-17 defeat at the hands of the Ravens, Sanders was asked his recollection of the events surrounding his possible selection by Baltimore.
"My response is I'm focused on the now," Sanders said. "I don't really talk about anything in the past and whatever happened in the past, it is what it is. I'm more focused on now. I'm more focused on how this game that we just gone and had and figuring out how to move forward from now."
Currently, Sanders is listed third on the depth chart -- behind Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel -- with the Browns.
In his preseason debut, Sanders had an impressive performance. He threw for 14 of 23 passing for 138 yards 2 touchdowns. Sanders also had 4 carries for 19 yards. Missing the Browns' second preseason game because of an oblique injury, in his final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, he was sacked five times.
