Checkmate: After Beef Rumors, Drake and Eminem Share The Stage In Detroit

The 6 God respects the Rap God.

Say what you will about Drake, but one thing’s for sure: the OVO frontman is playing dirty, not clean. In his latest chess move, Drizzy squashed rumors of an impending battle with Eminem by bringing Marshall Mather himself onto his Summer Sixteen Tour stage in Detroit. Continuing his spree of A-list guests, Drake ended Internet chatter about supposed friction between the 6 God and the Rap God by calling Eminem "the greatest rapper to ever touch a microphone."

Talk of a Drake/Eminem battle began on Hot 97’s airwaves when Ebro Darden took to the mic to claim that a recent conversation with Drake included an exchange about Eminem. Darden said that he mentioned the possibility of Eminem jumping on wax to defend his Slaughterhouse artist – and Drake’s latest nemesis – Joe Budden. The radio host stated that in response, Drizzy said, “I got something for him too,” sending social media into a tailspin about a possible beef between the two heavyweights. Amid the new trending topic, Darden backtracked, calling his claims a “joke.”

Unfortunately for Hot 97, Drake did not take kindly to the sparked fuse and used his four-night tour run at Madison Square Garden to take several shots at the radio station, including Funkmaster Flex, whose name resurfaced on the rapper’s s**tlist after his beef with Meek Mill last year. Darden issued a response to the slander by urging Drake not to “play” with him, and calling the mentioning of an Eminem battle “absurd.”

“We had an absurd conversation about speculative rap beef that was so absurd that the idea that Marshall Mathers, Eminem, would jump up and protect Joe Budden and go at Drake,” he said. “That is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. It is ridiculous so Drake is really mad about that? Hit the button! Do not play with me. None of y’all.”

Following their appearance together, Eminem made a point to do something even more rare that hitting the stage these days. He took to Instagram to post a picture with Drake, captioning the flick, “Views from The Joe.#WelcometoDetroit.” The Toronto rapper also posted the same photo, writing “SHARED THE STAGE WITH THE GOAT FOR DETROIT. DONE THE HYPE.”

What does this all mean for Joe Budden? The world may never know. Peep photos and video from Drake and Eminem’s monumental moment in Detroit below:
