Angel Reese’s Unrivaled Return Impacts The Postseason Race

Rose BC currently ranks last in rebounding. Bayou Barbie could change that at just the right time.

Angel Reese will make her season debut for the Unrivaled three-on-three league’s Rose BC on Friday night, as the squad tries to make a late playoff run.

Rose BC sits at five wins and six losses with only three regular season games left. Only six of the league’s eight teams make the postseason, and Reese rejoins a Rose team sitting in fifth place, and dead last in rebounding. Reinserting Reese, a dominant rebounder, into the matchup against Hive BC is intended to help Rose BC make it in.

After initially remaining unsigned for the start of the current campaign, Reese agreed to return to Unrivaled for the remainder of the season earlier this month. The move follows a year in which Reese earned a second consecutive WNBA All-Star selection and was named to the USA Basketball national team for the upcoming FIBA World Cup. While she was absent from the early stages of Unrivaled’s second year, her return comes as the regular season reaches its final stretch.

The forward’s return marks a shift in the team’s composition. During the league's inaugural season in 2025, Reese led Rose BC to the championship, averaging a double-double with 13.3 points and a league-high 12.4 rebounds per game. Her output included the first 20-20 game in Unrivaled history and resulted in her being named the league’s first Defensive Player of the Year.

Currently, Rose BC ranks last in the league in rebounding, averaging 30 per game. Reese’s presence in the frontcourt is expected to address this specific statistical gap. In the Unrivaled 3-on-3 format, which utilizes an 18-second shot clock, the value of defensive stops and second-chance opportunities is amplified.

Reese rejoins a roster that includes veteran point guard Chelsea Gray and scorer Kahleah Copper. The format of the league magnifies Reese's specific skill set; with fewer players on the floor, there is less defensive rotation available to recover from interior mismatches.

The Friday night game in Miami serves as Reese’s first appearance in the league since capturing the 2025 title, and regaining the league's leading rebounder alters the team's depth. Napheesa Collier, the league’s co-founder, told USA Today that Reese changes the competitive dynamics for the teams currently involved in the playoff race.

For Reese, these final three regular-season games precede her departure for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. For Rose BC, the objective is to utilize Reese’s rebounding and defensive metrics to secure a postseason berth and defend the inaugural league championship.
