Le’Veon Bell Claims Adam Gase Used Cocaine Before Jets Practice

The former Jets star pulled back the curtain on the locker room friction.

Former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell is opening up about his tumultuous time with the New York Jets, making a series of inflammatory claims regarding his former head coach. During an interview on the "Respectfully Justin Laboy" podcast, Bell alleged that Adam Gase used cocaine in the facility during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Bell joined the Jets as a high-profile free agent after sitting out a full year in Pittsburgh. However, the move never lived up to the hype, as Bell struggled to find the same rhythm that made him a three-time Pro Bowler with the Steelers. Now, he is pointing toward Gase’s behavior behind the scenes as a reason for the friction.

The former All-Pro told host Justin Laboy that he personally walked into the coach's office and witnessed the activity just minutes before the team was set to begin daily activities. Bell described the situation as "crazy," noting that while he had heard rumors previously, seeing it firsthand changed his perspective on the leadership in the building.

"We got practice in 28 minutes," Bell said during the podcast appearance. "We got a walk-through, bro. This is what you’re doing in here?"

The accusations go beyond a single moment, as Bell claimed these incidents happened on multiple occasions. He went as far as to suggest that Gase was under the influence while directing the offense and calling plays on game days. During the podcast, Bell repeatedly referred to Gase as the "worst coach" he has ever played for, citing a lack of professional standards and poor decision-making.

Gase led the Jets to a disappointing 9-23 record over two seasons before being fired in early 2021. He currently serves as an assistant head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers and has not commented on the specific allegations made by his former player. Bell was released by the team in October 2020 after appearing in only 17 games for the franchise.
