Kelsey Mitchell Reveals Terrifying Rhabdomyolysis Diagnosis
During the Indiana Fever’s elimination against the Las Vegas Aces, Kelsey Mitchell experienced rhabdomyolysis, a condition that happens when muscles reach maximum capacity.
In the frightening moment, Mitchell collapsed on the ground and had to be helped off the floor. She was taken to a local hospital explained that she “went into a state of numbness and temporary paralysis.
“Because my muscles stopped producing positive blood to my bloodstream, my body locked up from a physical standpoint, and from there fatigue and cramping settled in,” Mitchell posted on X(formerly Twitter).. “It sucked. I panicked because I began to think the worst when I felt like I couldn’t move my legs. It was an out-of-body experience for me, and I thank God for covering me at a time like that.”
Mitchell joked that during the game, she literally gave her all for the win.
“Today, on Oct. 1, I am walking and moving at a slow pace, but I will be fine very soon,” Mitchell wrote. “I want to thank the Fever medical team, the Vegas medical team, and the staff at the local hospital for keeping me safe. In other words, I played literally til my wheels fell off, lmao.”
Before her injury, Mitchell was playing some of her best basketball of the season as the injury-plagued Fever gave the Aces all they could handle. In the 2025 WNBA Playoffs, she averaged 23.4 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals. Her shooting splits included a 45.2% field goal percentage, 43.3% from three-point range on 6.0 attempts per game, and an excellent 96.6% from the free-throw line.
