Sparks Fly At Jake Paul-Gervonta Davis Press Conference
The much-hyped boxing match between Jake Paul and Gervonta "Tank" Davis kicked off its promotional tour in New York City, and it was a wild one. Meeting each other for the first time, the 6-foot-1 Paul towered over the 5-foot-5 Davis. While the size disparity has dominated the narrative leading up to the Netflix bout, the press conference was filled with verbal jabs, and each fighter promised to dominate the fight, which will be held at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Love it or hate it, Paul vs Davis will be one of the most talked-about fights of the year.
During the press conference at Palladium in midtown Manhattan, Paul spoke about how he would use his size to his advantage.
“I would say a lot of things, but I think first and foremost is going to be my reach, my size, and being able to keep him away,” Paul said. “I think there's a lot of holes in his defense that a lot of people haven't exposed before.”
Paul also predicted that he would knock Davis out.
“I haven't got a knockout in a long time, so I'm itching,” Paul explained. I'm just excited to be able to deliver that for the fans and have another most viral knockouts ever.”
In the middle of his prime years as a fighter with a record of 30 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw, and the current WBA lightweight champion, Davis was asked why he took the fight against Paul.
“I think it's gonna be a great event,” Davis answered. “Every time I fight, it’s fireworks. Jake Paul is coming in; he's much bigger, he's much stronger.”
Davis also shared how his speed will be his superpower in the ring against Paul.
“I'm much quicker than him. He’s much stronger and much bigger, but we all know that it’s harder for taller fighters to fight a shorter one,” Davis said. “He’s decent and he's gonna hold up for a couple of rounds – but once it gets hot in there, you know how things play out.”
As the press conference went on, Paul said that Davis "can’t read" like his former promoter and world champion Floyd Mayweather. He also brought up Davis' domestic violence allegations after his arrest in July.
“With or without the ankle monitor on?", when Davis was asked what he would weigh for the exhibition bout.
"Gervonta, you're the f***ing clown, buddy," Paul continued. "You're the f***ing clown, Gervonta. Any man who puts his hands on a woman is a clown."
“With P Diddy, it was mad females coming out… If I hit a female, wouldn’t there be mad other females? I ain’t been just with one female,” Davis responded.
The fight will go for 10 rounds at 3 minutes per round, a catchweight of 195 pounds with 12-ounce gloves. Also, three commission-approved judges will be present to score the fight, and both fighters will be enrolled in the highest level of testing by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA)
