Golden State Warriors Sign Al Horford To a Multi-Year Deal
The Golden State Warriors announced the signing of veteran center Al Horford to a multi-year deal.
According to CBS Sports, Horford, who is entering his 19th season, gave his verbal commitment to the team. Horford and several other free agents are in a holding pattern while they await a decision from Jonathan Kuminga, who’s been in negotiations with the Warriors.
Horford, a five-time All-Star, spent seven of the past nine years with the Boston Celtics.
On social media, Horford expressed his grattiude for the Celtics orgazation and their fans.
"From the moment we arrived, you have welcomed my family and I with open arms. This chapter in my career will hold a special place in my heart," Horford wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Raising Banner 18 with this city will be a moment I will always cherish. I am forever grateful for the fans and the organization. Thank you, Boston."
Last season, Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. He shot 36.3% from behind the arc on 5.2 attempts per game. Used strategically, Horford started 42 of the 60 games he played for the Celtics. He’s also made over 100 3-pointers in each of the past three seasons.
With his three-point shooting skills, Horford will be a significant upgrade at center for the Warriors and complements the team’s big three of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler III, and Draymond Green.
For his career, Horford had played in 1,300 NBA games and clocked 42,000 career regular- and postseason minutes. The two-time NCAA national champion is just one of 11 players ever with at least 14,000 points, 8,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists, 1,000 blocks, and 800 steals in his career.
Along with Horford, the Warriors also resigned Gary Payton II and De'Anthony Melton have committed to sign contracts with Golden State/
