Scottie Pippen Thinks He Would Be The Best Player in Today’s NBA
Scottie Pippen recently revealed that he would be the best player in the league if he played in the NBA today.
During an interview with El Pais, the six-time champion shared why he would dominate today’s game.
"I'd do very well. The game has changed, sure—it's more up and down now—but my style fit that kind of play even in the '80s and '90s,” Pippen said. “ I don't think it would be a big challenge."
Compared to his era, Pippen believes that he would be even better under the rules of the modern game and his skill set.
"Yes, I think so," when discussing whether he'd be the top player in the league. "There's no reason to think otherwise. If I worked as hard as I did back then, I believe I'd easily be among the best."
While Pippen was an all-time great perimeter defender with 10 All-Defensive selections and a dynamic playmaker, playing alongside Michael Jordan, he was never considered the best player on his team.
During his best season, when Jordan retired, in the 1993-94 NBA season, Scottie Pippen averaged 22.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per contest, along with 2.9 steals and 0.8 blocks. He was selected to his fourth All-Star Game and was named the All-Star Game MVP, while also earning selections to the All-NBA First Team and the NBA All-Defensive First Team. Even with this strong season, Pippen was not considered the best player in the league.
As a defensive player, Pippen has a strong case that he would be phenomenal if he played today. But arguing that he would be the best overall player might be a bit of an exaggeration.
