Shannon Sharpe Sued For Defamation After Opening Up About Being Let Go From ESPN

Just weeks after he settled a $50 million sexual assault suit, a woman is suing Sharpe in a $20 million defamation lawsuit, claiming he created a "false narrative" about her marital status on his podcast.

Shannon Sharpe has been hit with another lawsuit.

The U.S. Sun reports that Sharpe is facing a $20 million lawsuit after being accused of defamation by Jimalita Tillman, a Chicago native who went viral after sharing an intimate moment with Usher at one of his concerts in April.

Tillman is suing Sharpe, Chad Johnson, his Nightcap podcast co-host, and its production company, Shay Shay Media, accusing all parties of spreading “a false narrative about her marital status.”

“'On April 2, 2025, I participated in a fan engagement moment at a Usher Raymond concert where I interacted with the artist as a selected audience member,” the suit read.

“Following this event, the defendants made and disseminated false and defamatory statements suggesting that I was married and that my husband was filing for divorce due to my participation in this audience experience, I am not married, nor am I currently going through a divorce,” the filing continued.

Tillman stated that the false statements made on Sharpe’s podcast have caused “significant harm” to her “character and reputation.”

She is reportedly seeking $20 million in damages.

On Thursday (July 31), Sharpe broke his silence on his release from ESPN after settling a $50 million lawsuit that accused him of rape and sexual assault.

"I'm sure everybody's heard the news by now that I will not be returning to ESPN,” Sharpe said on his Nightcap podcast.

“I found out this information a little earlier in the week, and really the only thing that I really asked is, ‘Guys, could we wait until Monday? My brother’s going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I really want it to be about him and I want it to be about my family,” he continued. “I said, ‘This coming out will overshadow everything he’s worked his entire life for.’ And, unfortunately, it didn’t happen that way.”

The former First Take co-host also said that he "profusely" apologized to his older brother, Sterling Sharpe, who is also a former NFL star who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this coming weekend. He hoped that the news would not be made public until after the ceremony.

"I really want it to be about him and I want it to be about my family... This coming out will overshadow everything he's worked his entire life for," Shannon Sharpe said. "I just wish this thing could have waited until Monday."

In April, Sharpe was named in a civil lawsuit filed in Nevada alleging that he committed assault, sexual assault, sexual battery, and battery. When the suit became public, Sharpe announced that he was taking time away from his duties at ESPN.
