Cowboys to Honor Late Rookie Marshawn Kneeland The Rest of the Season
The Dallas Cowboys will honor defensive end Marshawn Kneeland this weekend with multiple tributes, including helmet decals, pregame T-shirts and a moment of silence, team owner Jerry Jones announced.
Kneeland, 24, died on Nov.6 from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to team officials. He had been in his first NFL season after being drafted by Dallas in the fourth round in April 2024.
During a Tuesday appearance on Dallas radio 105.3 The Fan, Jones said the Cowboys will wear a custom decal on the helmets for the remainder of the season. The design, which is being finalized, will honor Kneeland’s memory and “keep his presence with us every week.”
Players and coaches will also wear black-and-white T-shirts bearing his name and No. 94 during warmups before Monday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The team will also pause for a moment of silence before the national anthem.
“He meant a great deal to our locker room,” Jones said. “This is our way of showing that he will always be part of the Cowboys family.”
On the Cowboys’ official Instagram page, the organization shared a tribute celebrating Kneeland’s life and career. The clip shows highlights from his college days at Western Michigan, his first practices with Dallas, and sideline moments from recent games. The post reads, “Forever in our hearts, #94.”
The Cowboys’ post received hundreds of comments from teammates and fans offering condolences. Several NFL players across the league reshared the video in support.
Also, during a press conference Wednesday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer said the team is focused on supporting one another as they process the loss.
“It’s been a tough week for everyone,” Schottenheimer said. “We’ve talked a lot about leaning on each other and honoring Marshawn by playing the game the way he did – full of energy and love.”
Jones said the Cowboys are also planning a charitable donation in Kneelands’s name to support mental health initiatives.
“It’s important that we not only honor Marshawn but help others in his memory,” he said.
The Cowboys will begin their formal tributes Monday night in Arlington, Texas, when they face the Raiders on national television.
Kneeland’s family has not yet released funeral arrangements, but the Cowboys said they are in contact with relatives to ensure the team’s tributes align with their wishes.
