Women’s History Month: Celebrating The Historic Tenure Of Raiders President Sandra Douglass Morgan
The appointment of Sandra Douglass Morgan as President of the Las Vegas Raiders in July 2022 marked the first time a Black woman has held the role in National Football League history. Named to the position by Owner Mark Davis, Morgan brought more than two decades of leadership experience across the sports, gaming, legal, and corporate sectors to the franchise. A native of Las Vegas, she transitioned into the role after serving as a chief regulator, director, and advisor within the state's primary industries.
Before stepping into the front office at Allegiant Stadium, Morgan established herself as a pivotal figure in Nevada’s primary economic engine. As the chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, she served as the chief regulator for the state’s multi-billion-dollar gaming industry. In that role, she oversaw a workforce of 400 and spearheaded the integration of cashless wagering technologies. Her leadership was also defined by a commitment to workplace culture, as she mandated that gaming licensees implement formal policies to prevent harassment and discrimination.
Morgan’s career in Nevada began long before her time with the Raiders. A graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, and UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law, she previously served as the city attorney for North Las Vegas, making her the first Black person to serve as a chief legal officer for a city in Nevada. Her versatility was further demonstrated during the global pandemic, where she advised the State of Nevada’s COVID-19 task force on critical infrastructure needs, including virtual education and expanding testing to facilitate the safe reopening of the state’s tourism industry.
Beyond her daily operations with the Silver and Black, Morgan remains a fixture in major sports developments in the region. She recently served as the Vice Chair of the Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, helping coordinate the first-ever Super Bowl held in Las Vegas. Her work has earned her various accolades, including the Distinguished Service Alumni Award from her alma mater and the 2012 Attorney of the Year award from the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association.
In addition to her duties with the Raiders, Morgan also sits on the boards of Fidelity National Financial, Inc. and Allegiant Travel Company. Her leadership remains a blueprint for executive excellence at the intersection of professional sports and corporate governance.
