The Philadelphia Eagles Win Super Bowl LIX In a Dominant Performance

After losing Super Bowl LVII in 2023, the Philadelphia Eagles redeemed themselves with a blowout victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch by a score of 40-22. With the win, the Eagles secured the second Super Bowl victory in franchise history, and Jalen Hurts outdueled Patrick Mahomes and silenced his detractors with an incredible performance, winning the MVP of the game. He completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles' win also kept the Chiefs from making history as the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

The Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis Trade

In what may go down as “the most shocking trade in NBA history,” the Dallas Mavericks sent generational superstar Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in a historic three-team deal for All-Star forward Anthony Davis. The Mavericks also traded Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris for Lakers guard Max Christie and their 2029 first-round pick. The trade comes after Dončić led Dallas to the 2024 NBA Finals, with the Mavericks reportedly motivated by concerns about his long-term health, conditioning, and defense ahead of offering him a $345 million supermax extension.

Coco Gauff Captures The French Open Crown

At just 21 years old, Coco Gauff became a two-time Grand Slam champ after beating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open final, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4. This victory makes her the first American woman to win the French Open since Serena Williams in 2015.

Dawn Staley Honored With Statue at the University of South Carolina

The University of South Carolina not only gave Dawn Staley her flowers, but she is forever immortalized with a bronze statue on the school’s campus. The statue is one of the few in the country dedicated to a Black woman. In her 17 years at the helm of South Carolina’s women’s basketball program, Staley has won three national championships, been to seven Final Fours, and won nine SEC titles with a remarkable 457-110 record. 

Oklahoma City Thunder Win Their First NBA Title

Since the franchise was formed in 2008, the Oklahoma City Thunder have never won an NBA championship. All of that changed in 2025 as OKC brought home the first title in team history. In a thrilling seven-game series, the OKC dispatched the Indiana Pacers, who gave them all they could handle. Capping off his historic year, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was named Finals MVP after averaging 30.3 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.6 rebounds.

Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard Headline Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time All-Star and one of the deadliest scorers of his generation, and Dwight Howard, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year Award winner and NBA champion, headline the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Maya Moore, a four-time WNBA Champion, Sylvia Fowles, a two-time WNBA Champion, and Sue Bird, a four-time WNBA Champion, were also elected. The induction ceremony will be held on September 5-6, 2025, in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Rose Basketball Club Wins the Inngaraul Championship of Unrivaled

Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 women's professional basketball league established in 2023 by WNBA players Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart was a major success in its first season.  The Rose Basketball Club became the inaugural Unrivaled champions, defeating all their rivals and solidifying their place in the league's history. 

Collier won the league MVP and the Unrivaled 1-on-1 tournament, taking home a $200,000 prize.

On September 13, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, one of the most anticipated fights in boxing history will go down. Terrance Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), undefeated former undisputed welterweight and light welterweight champion, faces Canelo Álvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs), the current undisputed super middleweight champion. When two of the best fighters in the world decided to step into the ring, this fight is poised to be one for the ages.
