Antonio Gates Denies Involvement in Betting Scandal

The NFL legend addressed the allegations that he was involved in the same poker games as Chauncey Billups.

Antonio Gates allegedly hosted and played in a rigged Miami poker game in connection to Chauncey Billup's recent arrest by the FBI.

According to journalist Pablo Torre,  the game was organized by Curtis Meeks, who is one of the more than 30 people indicted by the FBI last week in connection with the probe.

One alleged victim said that he and his friends had been scammed of almost $1 million, with Gates serving as the “face card” , the celebrity that draws in clients, for a game in which Meeks was a main participant.

Gates vehemently denied the allegations in a statement from  his management.

"Antonio Gates has not been involved nor has he been accused of any wrong doing [sic], assertions to the contrary are false and without merit," Denise White, the CEO of EAG — a PR company with Gates as one of their clients wrote. "There will be no further comments on this matter."

Last week, more than 30 people were accused of staging a rigged poker game that involved Billups, Heat guard Terry Rozier and former NBA player Damon Jones

Federal prosecutors alleged that Billups was the “face card” for the rigged poker games, “with mob-linked organizers using him to lure “fish” into the high-tech scheme” to lose millions of dollars.

According to the indictment, the alleged perpetrators used X-ray-equipped poker tables, rigged card shufflers, marked cards, and the use of sensor-equipped contact lenses and glasses by players who were in on the scam.

Along with Gates, Torre reported NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett attended one of these poker games, thinking it was an after-party. Garnett would leave early.

Torre also reported that Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue was present at a game in 2019, but did not sit at the same table as Billups.
