Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups Arrested in Federal Gambling Probe
Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups were arrested Thursday as part of a federal gambling-related investigation.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Rozier was arrested Thursday morning at a hotel in Orlando, Florida. Billups was arrested in Oregon in connection with a separate but ”related illegal gambling case linked to an illegal poker operation tied to the Mafia,” ABC News reports. Billups is expected to make an initial court appearance later Thursday.
Rozier and former Cleveland Cavaliers player and assistant coach Damon Jones were also charged in a separate but related illegal gambling case, along with six other people who were charged on Thursday. The charges accused the co-defendants of “turning professional basketball into a criminal gambling operation by using inside information to place unlawful wagers.”
Kash Patel, the Eastern District of New York and FBI director, will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday to announce arrests from the investigations.
Billups has coached the Trail Blazers since 2021, following a 17-year career as a player. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024.
