Sauce Gardner Lands Record-Breaking $120.4 Million Contract With Jets
Sauce Gardner and the New York Jets have agreed to a record-setting contract -- a four-year, $120.4 million extension.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the contract makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, surpassing Houston Texans star Derek Stingley Jr., who received a three-year, $90 million extension in March. Gardner’s deal reportedly includes $85.653 million in guaranteed money.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gardner expressed his excitement about signing his new deal and his future with the Jets.
“THE DEAL IS DONE. This is only the beginning. my brother @allantegardner bts & @ajv got it done. I appreciate the Jets organization for believing in me, my teammates for the blood, sweat, & tears we put in, and JETS NATION... I appreciate y'all supporting me,” Gardner’s post read. “Thank you GOD.”
Since being drafted by the New York Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft, Gardner has rapidly ascended as one of the best defensive backs, winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He's the only cornerback since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 to be named first-team All-Pro in each of his first two seasons. Garden was also selected for the Pro Bowl in both of his first two seasons, demonstrating his consistent high-level performance.
At minicamp this year, Gardner made it clear that he wanted to stay with the Jets for the long term.
"I want to change the organization," Gardner said. "I want to be a part of changing the organization."
After signing Gardner and coming to terms on an extension with Garrett Wilson on a four-year, $130 million contract, the Jets are planning to be contenders in the AFC for years to come.
