Angel Reese Looks To Expand Ownership Portfolio To Australia
Angel Reese is taking her influence global by joining the group bidding for the Women’s National Basketball League’s 10th license. If the bid is successful, Reese would be part owner and part of a partnership bringing a professional women’s franchise back to Brisbane, Australia’s third most populous city
This move would mark the second professional sports team investment for the 23-year-old forward, who is currently entering her third season as a player in the WNBA. Reese, a two-time All-Star, previously joined the ownership group of DC Power FC in the United Soccer League in 2024. Her latest venture into the WNBL aligns with her broader mission to elevate women’s sports internationally.
The Brisbane bid is spearheaded by Jason Levien, an experienced sports investor and owner of the Brisbane Bullets, alongside local owner Ben Haan. While the investment involves the Bullets' infrastructure, Reese’s stake is focused on the prospective women’s team rather than the existing men’s NBL franchise.
The announcement coincides with a high-profile visit to Australia, where Reese collaborated with Reebok to debut new colorways for her signature Angel Reese 1 sneaker. During the trip, it was also revealed that the brand will become the official footwear partner of the WNBL starting in the 2027 season.
Beyond her work on the court, Reese has become a formidable force in the sports business world. In 2025, she joined the ownership group of TOGETHXR, a women's media and commerce brand. She also continues to lead the Angel C. Reese Foundation, which she founded in 2023 to provide resources for girls and women in sports and financial literacy.
Malcolm Watts, the CEO of the Brisbane Bullets, said in a statement that having a figure of Reese's stature involved is a significant boost for the region. He emphasized that basketball is the fastest-growing sport in Queensland and that Reese’s presence serves as a powerful message to young athletes regarding the lack of a ceiling for female success.
