Flau’jae Johnson Leads LSU to Eighth Straight 100-Point Game, Breaking Coach Mulkey's Old Record

Flau'jae Johnson and the No. 5 LSU Women’s Basketball team continue their dominant start, breaking a 43-year-old NCAA scoring record set by Coach Kim Mulkey herself.

The No. 5 LSU Women’s Basketball team continued its historic run of dominance Saturday night, defeating Washington State 112-35 to claim the Paradise Jam Reef Division championship. The victory extended the Tigers’ streak of consecutive 100-point games to eight, solidifying a new, unprecedented benchmark in NCAA women’s basketball history.

The undefeated Tigers (8-0) had already secured the NCAA record in the tournament’s opening round by logging their seventh straight 100-point output against Marist. That win shattered the previous record of six, which had stood for 43 years, set by the 1982 Louisiana Tech team—a team famously piloted by then-All-American point guard, and current LSU head coach, Kim Mulkey.

LSU’s offensive firepower and depth have turned their early-season schedule into a record-breaking spectacle. The team’s ability to consistently cross the century mark speaks to an elite level of execution and a deep roster. Saturday’s championship was a collective effort, featuring seven LSU players scoring in double figures.

Leading the charge was senior guard and cultural figure Flau’jae Johnson, who finished with 16 points. Johnson, a returning first-team All-SEC player, continues to demonstrate why she is one of the nation's most impactful athletes, blending elite skill with magnetic star power.

The Tigers’ commanding performance saw other key players step into the spotlight. Amiya Joyner, who was named the division’s Most Valuable Player, recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. She was joined by newcomers ZaKiyah Johnson, Mikaylah Williams, Grace Knox, and MiLaysia Fulwiley, who each contributed 12 points. Sophomore Jada Richard added 14 points, going four-for-four from the 3-point line. The score reached 100 with 3:46 left in the fourth quarter on a pair of free throws by Joyner, highlighting how early and emphatically the Tigers are hitting the mark.

LSU’s success is being achieved through a relentless full-court press and a constantly rotating roster, as Coach Mulkey has utilized her deep bench to keep the pressure high. Following the record-breaking win on Friday, Mulkey offered a typical no-nonsense assessment of the statistical milestone, noting that the records were not a primary focus for the team. “It’s not something that’s high on our priority list,” she commented, emphasizing the focus remains on development and winning championships.

For the young women of LSU, who represent the pinnacle of Black excellence in college sports, the 8-0 start and the historic scoring streak establish the team as a national championship contender. They now look ahead to their first major test of the season when they travel to Durham, N.C., to face Duke in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Thursday.
