This Week in Good Black News: Black Love Reigns Supreme, Disney Celebrates Us, And a Famous Family Slays Together

From the ‘Power of Joy’ to a BET Awards first, this week brought a stack of wins worth celebrating everywhere.

This week’s good news is a reminder that Black excellence is not a once-in-a-while thing. It is happening at the happiest place on Earth, in sports, in fashion, and in the love stories that have quietly carried our hearts for decades. Some of these wins are big and public. Some are more personal. All of them matter because they show Black people stepping into new roles, getting their flowers, and building something that lasts. Here are the stories worth keeping on your timeline.

Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles called her first BET Awards nomination a “dream come true” after landing in the Sportswoman of the Year category. She said she had always told herself she would win one of these awards one day, and being nominated alongside athletes like A’ja Wilson, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Naomi Osaka made the moment even bigger. It is a reminder that Black excellence in sports is about recognition, visibility, and the next generation seeing themselves in the room.

Will Smith shared how proud he was of Jaden after the younger Smith presented his sophomore menswear collection as Christian Louboutin’s men’s creative director during Paris Fashion Week. The family showed up together — including Jada, Willow, Trey, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris — which shows a loving family-support moment, not just a fashion headline. Jaden’s role at Louboutin also keeps him in a rare creative lane as one of the young Black names shaping luxury fashion right now.

Disney’s “Power of Joy Reunion” brought more than 100 Black creators together at Disneyland for a two-day Juneteenth celebration built around community and visibility. The event included trivia, meet-and-greets, Yardfest, and Disney on the Yard programming for HBCU students, which makes it feel like more than a brand activation. Creators like Kalen Allen and Mel Mitchell described the gathering as deeply meaningful.

We celebrated Denzel and Pauletta Washington’s 43rd anniversary with a throwback photo gallery, and that alone is good news because we love to see Black love last. The Washingtons have long stood as one of Hollywood’s most admired marriages, and these photos are a nice reminder that longevity and partnership still matter.
