Satou Sabally’s Concussion To Keep Her Out of Game 4
Phoenix Mercury star forward Satou Sabally will be sidelined for Game 4.
On Wednesday (October 8), Sabally suffered a concussion during Game 3 of the WNBA Finals against the Las Vegas Aces, according to CBS Sports.
With 4:26 remaining in Game 3, Sabally attempted a layup and got tangled up with Aces guard Jackie Young. When she fell to the ground, her head collided with the legs of the Aces' Kierstan Bell.
After staying down for a while and being surrounded by her teammates, she received medical attention. Sabally tried to stand multiple times before leaving the court with assistance. At the time of her departure from the game, Sabally scored 24 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
During his postgame press conference, Mercury coach Nate Tibbets said that he went to the locker room postgame, but Sabally had already left. He didn't have an update on her status or injury at the time.
“I would guess she got hit in the face or the head," Tibbets said.
Without Sabally, the Mercury are missing one of the best two-way players in the “W.” Her defensive prowess allows her to cover power forwards, but she can defend most wings out on the perimeter.
Currently, Sabally leads the team with 21.7 points per game in the series and has been playing with an ankle injury throughout the playoffs.
In her first season with the Mercury, Sabally spent her first five seasons with the Dallas Wings, who drafted her No. 2 overall in the 2020 WNBA draft.
Down 0-3, the Mercury face elimination as the Aces pursue their third championship in four years on Friday night.
