Adrian Peterson Arrested in Texas on DWI and Gun Charges

The former Vikings star was taken into custody in Sugar Land, Texas, for driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is facing several charges after being arrested in Sugar Land, Texas.

According to CNN, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. Peterson was taken into custody Sunday morning at around 9:30 a.m., by Sugar Land police.

The arrest is Peterson’s second this year. Back in April, In April, Peterson was “booked on a charge of driving while impaired after police pulled him over in Minnesota for speeding,” the Associated Press reported. He was allegedly driving 83 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

The arrest occurred after Peterson was in attendance at an NFL draft event for Vikings fans. According to reports, Peterson had a blood alcohol content 0.14 percent, which is almost twice the legal limit in Minnesota. 

Peterson has had several run-ins with the law. In 2014, Peterson was accused of using a switch to beat his then 4-year-old son. He eventually agreed to a plea deal that included a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault. Peterson was suspended for all but one game in the 2014 season by the NFL.

In 2023, Peterson was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport on an allegation of felony domestic violence following an incident with his wife on a plane. Charges were later dropped.

Considered as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, Peterson was the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award and Offensive Player of the Year in 2012, a season where he rushed for 2,097 yards,  just eight yards shy of the single-season rushing record. He put up the record-breaking season after recovering from an ACL tear the previous year. Peterson also set the NFL single-game rushing record with 296 yards as a rookie in 2007, earning him the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. A seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time First-team All-Pro, Peterson ranks fifth all-time in career rushing yards and fourth in career rushing touchdowns.
