Chris Paul Goes Viral For Petty Reaction To Clippers’ Elimination

The Point God wasted no time after the Clippers gave up a 43-point explosion from Golden State, blowing a lead and their season.

Chris Paul never forgets. After the Los Angeles Clippers were bounced from the postseason Wednesday night in the Clippers’ 126-121 loss to the Golden State Warriors, Paul posted a pointed image to his Instagram story that quickly caught the attention of fans across social media.

The image Paul shared is a famous internet meme often used to celebrate the downfall of an adversary. The original context of the photo features a man posing at the funeral of someone he disliked, and given Paul’s history with the organization, the message was hard to miss.

The tension between the legendary point guard and the franchise reached a breaking point earlier this season. Paul’s second stint in Los Angeles was cut short following reported locker room friction and disagreements with teammates. The team eventually sent him home before trading him to the Toronto Raptors. Paul was later released and subsequently retired, ending a career where he was once the face of the Clippers' "Lob City" era.

On the court, the Clippers seemed to have the game in hand, leading for the majority of the night. Despite a scoring push from Stephen Curry, Los Angeles held the advantage heading into the final frame. But momentum shifted in the fourth quarter as the Warriors exploded for 43 points, outlasting a Clippers effort led by Bennedict Mathurin, who finished with 23 points. Kawhi Leonard and Darius Garland added 21 points each, but the late-game breakdown proved fatal to their season.

Paul’s social media post adds a final sting to a disappointing finish for a Clippers team that was once considered a primary contender in the Western Conference. With the team now eliminated from the NBA Play-In Tournament, the front office faces a difficult summer of evaluating a core that failed to advance when it mattered most.
