Simone Biles Reveals She ‘Almost Died’ In Terrifying Health Crisis

While her husband was away at NFL practice, the gymnastics star faced a sudden life-threatening situation alone.

Eleven-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles is resting at home with her inner circle after surviving a sudden, terrifying medical emergency.

Biles took to Instagram on Saturday to share the news with her followers, opening up about a situation she normally would have kept private. The 29-year-old gymnast posted several photos on her social media stories showing the reality of her week, including a picture of her arm with three hospital patient bands, a bedroom setup, and a screenshot of a heart rate monitor showing her pulse at 126 beats per minute.

Though Biles is known for keeping a lot of her personal life behind closed doors, she told fans that the severity of the situation changed her perspective. She wrote on the platform that almost dying was not something she ever expected to deal with, describing the ordeal as one of the most frightening moments of her entire life.

Right now, details on what exactly caused the hospitalization remain scarce as Biles did not share a specific diagnosis.

The scare happened at a tough time logistically, as her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens, was out of town in Indiana for football practice sessions. The couple tied the knot back in 2023.

Even with her husband away on the field, Biles was not left to handle the crisis alone. She expressed deep appreciation for her inner circle, thanking everyone who reached out to check on her, came by to visit, or sent over floral arrangements.

Biles, who holds a total of 41 Olympic and world championship medals, is coming off a dominant summer in which she captured three gold medals and a silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While she is focused on healing right now, she assured her fans that she plans to share the full details of what happened sooner or later.
