Ex-Michigan Football Coach Faces Stalking, Home Invasion
The fall from grace for former Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore culminated in a stunning and sober court appearance today, just two days after he was fired from the pinnacle of college football. Moore, the national title-winning architect, was formally charged with serious crimes in connection with an incident that occurred hours after his dismissal.
Appearing virtually in Washtenaw County’s 14A1 District Court from the county jail, Moore, dressed in a white jail uniform, was arraigned on three distinct criminal charges:
- Felony Home Invasion in the Third Degree (Punishable by up to five years in prison).
- Misdemeanor Stalking.
- Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering.
These charges represent a grave escalation from the university's initial "inappropriate relationship" personnel matter.
The Prosecutor's Case: From Breakup to Arrest
Assistant Prosecutor Kati Rezmierski outlined the disturbing chronology of events that led to Moore’s arraignment. According to the prosecution, the alleged victim—a woman with whom Moore had a dating relationship—broke up with the former coach on Monday, December 8. She subsequently informed the University of Michigan of the relationship, which led to Moore's termination "for cause" on Wednesday, December 10.
Following the firing, prosecutors allege Moore went to the victim's residence and, in what the state described as a "terrorizing" incident, unlawfully entered the dwelling. The events culminated in a 911 call from the victim's address reporting a male was "attacking her" and had "been stalking her for months."
Furthermore, the prosecutor revealed highly disturbing details about Moore's conduct during the alleged incident, stating that he reportedly grabbed kitchen knives and scissors, threatening self-harm and allegedly telling the victim, "I'm going to kill myself. I'm going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands." Moore was later located and taken into custody near a church.
Bond and Court Mandates
Washtenaw County Magistrate Judge Odetalla Odetalla set Moore’s bond at $25,000. The terms for his release are exceptionally strict, mandating:
- GPS Tether: He must wear a GPS tracking device.
- No Contact: He is barred from any form of contact "that the human mind can possibly fathom" with the alleged victim.
- Mental Health: He is required to complete mental health treatment.
- Location: He must remain within the state of Michigan and abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs.
The arraignment marks the beginning of the legal process that will determine the fate of the 39-year-old former coach. Once celebrated for leading the Wolverines to victory and seen as a rising star, Moore now faces a stark reality: professional success offers no shield against the consequences of alleged criminal behavior.
Moore is scheduled for his next court appearance, a probable cause conference, on January 22, 2026.
