Charlie Sheen Using His Spanish Name for Machete Kills
The Anger Management star is going back to his Spanish in his next feature film, Machete Kills, and will be credited as Carlos Estevez, TMZ reports.
Estevez is, of course, Sheen's family name that was ditched by his father, Martin Sheen, when he launched a career in Hollywood — Sheen's real name is Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez and his father is from Spain. Only Charlie's brother, Emilio Estevez, retained the family name. But the pseudonym is purely for professional purposes: none of the Estevez's legally changed their names to Sheen.
Why go back now? It likely has something to do with the fact that Machete Kills is directed by Mexican-American auteur Robert Rodriguez, who takes great pride in his Latin roots. With such films as El Mariachi and Desperado, Rodriguez has brought Mexican pulp into the American mainstream and launched the careers of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in the process.
Machete Kills also stars Lady Gaga (in her big screen debut), Jessica Alba, Cuba Gooding Jr., Michelle Rodriguez and Mel Gibson. The film is scheduled for release in September.
