Cops and Wayans?
If you look on IMDb.com and look up the current credits of Shawn, Kim, Marlon or Keenen Ivory Wayans, you'll see something called "Untitled Wayans Brothers Project." David Alan Grier, who is in the film, brought that up to me during our interview about his new Comedy Central show "Chocolate News" on Wednesday but I couldn't even get a premise out of him.\r
Ooooh, I can't say," he said while grimmacing. "They would kill me. I'll just say that it's very, very funny and everyone's going to love it."\r
Well, after a little more digging I did find out that it will be directed by Keenen, spoofs cop movies (haven't they already done this before?) and that it will be released sometime next year. The Wayans' have had much success with spoofs in the past--although the "Scary Movie" franchise should have been limited to one film--but I'd like to see them try something different like "Scary Little White Chicks Shuffling in Hollywood."\r
I suppose, however, that the bottom line for this fine family from NYC is that they've become the highest-grossing filmmakers of color in Hollywood history. Their films might not win critical acclaim, but they obviously provide some much-needed escapism to those willing to plop down their $12 at the local multiplex.
