Flavor Flav Comes Through For Team USA

After a backhanded invite to D.C., the iconic Public Enemy hypeman is giving the U.S. women’s hockey team a celebration they deserve.

The celebration for the gold medal-winning U.S. women’s hockey team may be moving from Washington, D.C., to the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip. Hip-hop legend Flavor Flav extended an invitation to the team for a championship celebration following their historic victory over Canada at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games.

The move comes after the team declined an invitation from President Donald Trump to attend the State of the Union address on Tuesday night. The team cited "previously scheduled academic and professional commitments" as the reason they could not make the trip to the nation's capital. In a statement to NBC News, USA Hockey expressed gratitude for the recognition but noted that the timing immediately following the Games made participation impossible for the athletes.

Flavor Flav, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., shared a formal email sent to USA Hockey on social media to make the offer official. The outreach specifically mentioned the "not quite invite" the women’s team initially received. While the president invited the men’s hockey team via a phone call through FBI Director Kash Patel, who flew to Italy on a government jet and swilled beer in the locker room, he added during the call that he "probably would be impeached" if he did not also include the women’s team.

Flav, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, is no stranger to supporting Olympic athletes. He previously served as an official hype man for the U.S. water polo teams during the 2024 Paris Games and supported the U.S. bobsled and skeleton teams in Italy. For this latest gesture, the rapper expressed a desire to host the hockey stars for dinners and shows, while also extending the invite to the bobsled and skeleton athletes who secured a record six medals.

While the logistics of a trip to Las Vegas are still being discussed, the gesture highlights the rapper's ongoing commitment to highlighting Olympic achievements. His representative noted that if the team shows interest, they will work to ensure the athletes have a "lovely experience" to commemorate their gold-medal performance. As the athletes balance their post-Olympic professional and academic lives, they now have an open door to celebrate their success on their own terms.
