Gucci Mane Sentenced to Mental Institution, Wacka Flocka Arrested

Waka Flocka turned himself in on Monday for probation violations that include illegal weapon and drug possession. On Dec. 27, his Brick Squad compatriot Gucci Mane was ordered by the Superior Court of Georgia’s Fulton County to report to the psychiatric facility of Anchor Hospital after a “Special Plea of Mental Incompetency” was filed on Mane’s behalf by attorney Michael Holmes.

According to Access Atlanta, the plea argued that Mane could not “go forward and/or intelligently participate in the probation revocation hearing.” You’ll recall Mane was previously arrested in Nov for violating parole by driving a Hummer on the wrong side of the street and for resisting arrest, among other violations. Charges were temporarily dropped.

Mane’s mental stability will be tested at the facility before he is scheduled to appear in court again in January. All of this begs the question: Is Mane truly mentally ill, or is he simply trying to avoid jail time? After all, this is hardly the first time the chart-topping rapper has had to deal with the consequences of breaking the law.

Last year, when asked by the Associated Press (via Billboard) how he planned to avoid being sent back to jail, Mane replied: “Before I make an action, think about the consequences…Any decision I make is a heavy decision. I got a lot of people who depend on me. Everything I do has so much weight on it.”

Do you think Mane is truly battling mental illness, or just attempting to avoid jail time?
