Tiger Woods is stepping away from golf to focus on his personal health and recovery. The 15-time major champion announced the decision Tuesday evening via social media, just four days after a high-profile DUI arrest and rollover crash in Florida. Deputies noted he was "limping and stumbling" during field sobriety tests, and a search revealed two hydrocodone pills in his pocket, a medication the golf great has struggled with in the past.

In a candid statement, the 50-year-old icon acknowledged the gravity of his current situation. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health," the golf legend shared. "This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery. I'm committed to taking the time needed to return to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally."

The announcement followed a not guilty plea submitted on Woods’ behalf by his attorney, Douglas Duncan,  to misdemeanor charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. While he waived his upcoming arraignment, the details surrounding the March 27 incident continue to emerge. According to the arrest affidavit, deputies observed the veteran athlete "sweating profusely" with "bloodshot and glassy" eyes following the crash near his Jupiter Island home.

Though the legendary figure hasn't competed on the PGA Tour since July 2024, the timing of this hiatus is poignant with the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club approaching. 

This latest setback adds another chapter to a grueling physical journey for the world-renowned pro. During the investigation, the sports star reminded authorities of his extensive medical history, which includes seven back surgeries and over 20 operations on his right leg, the result of a catastrophic 2021 crash in Los Angeles.

The PGA Tour and CEO Brian Rolapp have both issued statements standing firmly behind the hall-of-famer.
