Gabrielle Union Praises Angel Reese’s Impact As Animated Film ‘GOAT’ Hits Theaters This Week
Angel Reese’s cultural footprint continues to expand as she enters her third season with the Chicago Sky. While her statistics on the court remain a focal point of her professional career, her visibility and interaction with fans have drawn commentary from prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
Actress Gabrielle Union recently detailed the atmosphere at Sky games, specifically focusing on the reception Reese receives from young fans. Union, who has a role alongside Reese in the upcoming animated film “GOAT”, observed that the line of children waiting to meet the forward often remains long well after the final buzzer has sounded.
"Going to Chicago Sky games everyone is like Angel Reese, Angel Reese and then after the game you know she stays for a very long time and the line of kids waiting to see her who are just like overwhelmed at the sight of her, its boys and girls," Union said. "There are boys that are holding her shoe. Like I got the Angel Reese shoe. I want you to sign this jersey and they are looking at her in awe."
Union, who is raising a 7-year-old daughter, said that seeing women in prominent leadership positions serves as a significant example for the next generation. The presence of women in leading roles fosters further opportunities for growth and representation regardless of industry, she said.
This connection between the athlete and the actress extends to the big screen this month. Union and Reese are featured in the upcoming animated film "GOAT," which is produced by NBA star Stephen Curry. The movie tells the story of an ambitious goat named Will, voiced by Caleb McLaughlin, who seeks to compete in a high-stakes professional sport called "roarball."
In the film, Reese provides the voice for a polar bear named Propp. This marks the second cinematic role for the Sky forward, who previously appeared in the 2025 thriller "A House of Dynamite." The production also features A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, who voices a reptile named Kouyate, alongside a cast that includes Jennifer Hudson and Jelly Roll.
"GOAT" is scheduled to premiere in theaters Feb. 13.
