Did Drake Lose Respect for Kendrick Lamar After "Control?"

Rapper downplays rivalry, tackles YMCMB rumors and more.

Drake had lots to talk about during an interview with Hot 97 yesterday (Sept. 24), namely the alleged YMCMB beef, Kendrick Lamar's "Control" diss and his relationship with Jay Z

For starters, YMCMB is still family. "In this block of years that I've been doing this, I've become my own man and my own entity," he told Angie Martinez. "I've never been the guy that was, like, just hanging around for the sake of hanging around, but I think it's becoming more evident how much I haven't been around because of how busy I've gotten."

Hectic schedules aside, October's Very Own said he speaks with Birdman daily and gets nothing but "good vibes" from Lil Wayne whenever they see each other.

Things with Lamar aren't as copacetic however. Although he enjoyed the Compton native's "Control" verse, he doesn't believe it was authentic. "It just wasn't real to me. I saw him after that [diss] and it was just like love, so it's like was that [diss] real or was that for the people? Those were harsh words, you can't just say that and see me like 'yeah man what's up' pretending like nothing ever happened. That's not real.

"To me, that's not like the nature of battling," he continued. "There's passion behind it. There's anger behind it. I personally enjoy making, like, great music and bodies of work over, like, being the talk of Twitter for, like, five days ... I don't know if it was worth it. Because there's a lot of people that were mentioned that I feel like can't really go back and f--k with that guy after that."

Of Hov, he called their friendship "one of the strongest, if not the strongest" he has with any other rapper, adding, "He's just like an incredible mentor."

Also during the interview, Drizzy talks potential girlfriends, past relationships, moving up to Jay and Kanye West's level and Nothing Was the Same, which he proclaimed "the best album of the year."
