Activist, writer and Twitter influencer Shaun King recently tweeted a thread which revealed he and his family were detained by immigration agents at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City.

  • King said the incident occurred when his family returned from Cairo, Egypt

  • The officer allegedly questioned King about his work as a leader in the Black Lives Matter movement

  • King was able to contact his attorneys and was eventually released

  • He also noted his experience was no different from what Muslims are forced to endure daily

  • Many were shocked to hear of King's story and wondered if he is on a government watch list

  • After receiving much support on Twitter, King provided an update
