Matt Barnes Wants the Award for Worst Year Ever
One person who was quite happy to see the clock strike midnight on 2015 is Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes. He took to Instagram to vent about the passing year in what he called “hands down the worst year of my life!” And while that sounds like a bit of a dramatic statement, Barnes does have some pretty convincing evidence to back it up.
The low point of last year for Barnes was when he, “lost the women I loved, the mother of my kids,” he wrote, adding that he had to walk away from the only thing he’s ever wanted, “MY OWN FAMILY!”
Barnes rceived a two-game suspension after a nasty fight with his estranged wife Gloria Govan, and his former teammate, New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher at Govan’s home just before holidays. In his post, he made sure to call out Fisher, who he says “went behind my back, messed w my ex, got caught for it, got dealt w for being a snake, then ran & told the police & NBA. Instead of taken that a – whoopin like a man & kept it moving…!”
This would have been enough to make 2015 a trying year for Barnes, but the hits didn’t stop there. He also mentioned drama with a certain Bajan beauty he was trying to publicly link himself to over the summer. He told TMZ that he was dating Rihanna, and that they were “just past the crush stage.” The singer promptly shut down the rumors, saying she had never even met Barnes. “Lied on by a pop star who’s lucky I stuck to the script and didn’t expose her lien as*…funny thing about texts and pics is they DON’T LIE!” he ranted.
Lastly, Barnes lamented over this season's move from Los Angeles to Memphis and, “being traded away from a team & city that I love!”
It wasn't entirely a pity party, though. He ended with a message of hope and also posted a video of Tupac Shakur explaining his need to talk from his heart and be real. Barnes captioned the clip, “That’s it……! Always gonna come from a real place, hate it or love!"
