‘Surviving R. Kelly’ Final Segments Reveal Shocking Details From Disgraced Singer’s Trial

The Lifetime docuseries originally debuted four years ago.

With the final installments of Surviving R. Kelly: The Final Chapter airing early this week, more details about the level of abusive scheming and planning the disgraced singer employed on his victims continues to emerge.

The series, which follows the recent trials and subsequent aftermath of Kelly’s 30-year prison sentence for sex trafficking, debuted the first of its final two episodes on Monday (January 2), and centers around the trial that put Kelly in prison, following the survivors and their families as they prepare to testify at the high-profile court proceeding.

Also during the episode, one survivor recalled a tormented incident where R. Kelly assaulted her after she discovered a sex tape featuring Aaliyah.

“I was 16 years old when I met Rob in 1993,” Ebonié Doyle revealed. “My friends and I went to a show, and he was there with other artists, and I just remember his voice was just amazing. After the show, my girlfriend and I were waiting outside, we were ready to go to our cars, and a limousine pulls up.”

Doyle also notes that she and Kelly became close after a hotel room encounter, during which the singer would wait for her outside of her high school. Furthermore, she said she moved in with him after her mother kicked her out for dating Kelly, but then things took a horrid turn after he became “really controlling,” especially with “certain things sexually he liked his way.”

After discovering the Aaliyah sex tape, Doyle described how Kelly had been “lying” to her about Aaliyah.

“The tape that I put in was of him and Aaliyah together,” she remembered. “What I saw on that tape was he and Aaliyah being intimate. They were on the tour bus, and everything that I had asked him was confirmed on the tape.”

Doyle says that after Kelly caught her watching the tape, they began arguing prior to him pushing her down a flight of stairs.

“That shake sent me down flights of stairs, and I just laid there. I just froze. That was the moment where I realized [how] to pick and choose my battles,” Doyle said. “Like, I loved him … I love [Kelly]. He’s still important to me. And so, he’s not some horrible man to me. And I don’t want people to think that.”

R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison last June, following his 2021 conviction on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Later, he was convicted of multiple child pornography charges at a Chicago federal trial in September and still faces charges in other jurisdictions. He has maintained his innocence and is in the process of appealing.

The final night of the series airs at 8 p.m. EST Tuesday on Lifetime.
