Ahmad Hardy, a star running back for the University of Missouri, is in stable condition after being shot at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning. The school confirmed on Monday that Hardy underwent surgery and is currently recovering.

Local law enforcement officials told WJTV-12 News and the Laurel Leader-Call that Hardy sustained a gunshot wound to his upper leg. The incident occurred during an outdoor concert at the Kamakazy Biker Club in Laurel, Mississippi, which drew a large crowd. According to Laurel police Sgt. Macon Davis, at least two people were injured in the gunfire, and three people of interest are currently in custody.

The University of Missouri released a statement on Monday expressing support for the athlete. "Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans," the university said. "We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support."

Hardy was transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for treatment. While the university stated that a timeline for his return to football activities remains unknown, sources told ESPN that Hardy was alert and moving on Monday. There is reportedly optimism about his ability to return to the field, though the long-term impact of the injury remains to be determined.

A native of Oma, Mississippi, Hardy is coming off a dominant season where he ranked second among all FBS players with 1,649 rushing yards. His performance earned him first-team Associated Press All-America honors and the title of SEC Newcomer of the Year. Hardy, who transferred to Missouri from UL Monroe following the 2024 season, was also a finalist for the Doak Walker Award after scoring 16 touchdowns last year.

Police indicated that the shooting began toward the end of the event, which featured performances by multiple rappers. Investigations into the motive and the circumstances surrounding the gunfire are ongoing.
