Tiger Woods’ SUV Overturns In Florida Years After High-Speed 2021 Crash

It's the third major vehicle accident for the 50-year-old.

Tiger Woods was involved in a serious rollover car accident on Friday afternoon in Jupiter Island, Fla. According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred just after 2 p.m. in the coastal town where the legendary golfer resides.

While details regarding the cause of the wreck remain scarce, early reports and aerial footage from WPTV in West Palm Beach showed an SUV reportedly belonging to Woodsresting on its driver’s side. The Martin County Sheriff is scheduled to provide a formal update during a press conference at 5 p.m. ET. At this time, official information regarding potential injuries or a hospital transport has not been confirmed.

This latest incident comes at a particularly cruel time for the 50-year-old icon. Woods had recently returned to the spotlight, competing this past Tuesday in the TGL finals. Representing his Jupiter Links GC team against the Los Angeles Golf Club, the appearance marked his first competitive action in over a year. He had spent the preceding months in an intense rehabilitation cycle following surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon and an additional back procedure in October.

Woods had been publicly weighing a high-stakes return to the PGA Tour for next week’s Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. As a five-time Masters champion, his presence at the year’s first major is always the focal point of the sport, and fans were eager to see if his body could withstand the rigors of the hilly Georgia course.

For many, this news brings back harrowing memories of February 2021, when the golfer was involved in a near-fatal single-car crash outside of Los Angeles. That accident resulted in "open fractures" to his lower right leg, requiring the insertion of a rod, screws, and pins to save the limb. During his recovery, he admitted that doctors nearly considered amputation, stating at the 2021 Hero World Challenge that he was simply "lucky to be alive."

Since that 2021 accident, the road to recovery has been grueling. Woods last completed four rounds of a PGA Tour event at the 2024 Masters and most recently missed the cut at the Open Championship in Scotland in July 2024. Despite the physical toll, he has remained a symbol of resilience, constantly fighting through surgeries and setbacks to return to the game he redefined.
