Brandy Says Singing With Whitney Houston In ‘Cinderella’ Was Her ‘Ultimate Favorite Moment’
Brandy is taking a walk down memory lane just in time for Cinderella: The Reunion special and is recalling her favorite moment while playing the iconic role of Cinderella in the film.
In case you missed it, ABC News Studios honored the 25th anniversary with Cinderella: The Reunion, A Special Edition of 20/20 on Tuesday (Aug. 23) during Disney’s World Princess Week. The film also starred Whitney Houston, who played the Fairy Godmother; for Brandy, it was a dream come true.
“My dream when I was a young girl was to be a singer, have my own band and meet Whitney Houston. That was it,” she said. “I had no idea that my destiny would take me to a role [like] Cinderella, [or that I would] be the first woman of color to play her. And then for Whitney Houston to be my Fairy Godmother... you gotta be kidding me.”
“Honestly, my ultimate favorite moment was never in the movie,” Brandy also shared. “It's in the studio with Whitney.”
Debra Martin Chase, the executive producer for the film, said that Houston not only “loved Cinderella” but was well aware of the impact the film would have.
“It was one of the things she was most proud of in her career,” Chase recalled, speaking on the late singer’s appreciation for the film. “She totally understood the value and the importance, the significance of having a Black Cinderella.”
The cast of 1997's Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, also included Whoopi Goldberg, Paolo Montalban, Victor Garber, Bernadette Peters, Jason Alexander and Veanne Cox.
